CITIZEN INFORMATION MEETING SCHEDULED FOR I-64 GAP SEGMENT C WIDENING PROJECT IN JAMES CITY COUNTY

Public invited to learn about the project May 6 at Stonehouse Elementary School

WILLIAMSBURG - The design-build contractor team Allan Myers and Wagman Construction for the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) I-64 Gap Segment C Widening Project will host a citizen information meeting on Tuesday, May 6, to share updates on the design and construction of the interstate widening project underway in James City County.

Construction on the project began in November 2024 and includes 9 miles of I-64 roadway widening and pavement rehabilitation from the New Kent/James City County line to approximately 1.15 miles west of the Route 199 Lightfoot exit (exit 234). In addition to widening I-64, the project also includes the repair, rehabilitation and widening of two bridges on I-64 east and west over Six Mount Zion Road, as well as paving the Lightfoot Park and Ride lot in York County.

I-64 Gap Segment C Widening Citizen Information Meeting

Tuesday, May 6, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Stonehouse Elementary School

3651 Rochambeau Drive Williamsburg, VA 23188

The meeting will be held in an open-house style format with members of the design-build team and VDOT representatives on hand to share current project design and construction information including projected traffic impacts, the anticipated construction timeline and the results of the project’s final noise analysis and noise barrier location.

The I-64 Gap Widening projects have been divided into three segments labeled Segments A, B, and C, with each being constructed as an operationally independent project to enhance connectivity between Richmond and Hampton Roads. The collective objective involves improving congestion and safety in this corridor by widening approximately 29 miles of travel lanes, adding a 12-foot wide third lane and 10-foot wide paved shoulders in both directions. The I-64 corridor within these project areas currently only provides two lanes in each direction and links to sections at both ends that have three travel lanes – hence, this corridor has been deemed “the gap.”
