Letter from Mike: Friends, As you are aware, the General Assembly officially wrapped up the 2012 session around 1:30 am on May 15th.  Our last order of business included votes on budget amendments, judicial appointments and last minute resolutions.   Unless we are called back for a special session, of which there is some discussion, we will report back to Richmond in January 2013. With few exceptions, the recent ‘End of Session Letter’ that we sent out covers the majority of the final results of our work in Richmond, so I will not readdress it here.  However, there is at least one very meaningful issue that has been passed since my letter that offers an incentive to port related employers.  We will cover that in more detail later in this newsletter.  Over the summer, I will continue working on several initiatives, some of which will have an impact within the next year, while others may take more time to realize.  These initiatives relate to topics such as business development, education, and transportation.  I will do my best to keep you updated as we make gains in these areas.

     Beginning June 2, visitors to New Quarter Park can rent a kayak to use exploring Queens Creek from New Quarter Park! Kayak rentals will be available each Saturday June through October from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (kayaks must returned by 4 p.m.). 

     Kayak rentals cost $35/2 hours per person. Rentals will include kayaks, life jackets and paddles as well as launching assistance for each patron. Staff will be present in the New Quarter Park office to assist all interested patrons. Special family rates are available.
