On the Campaign Trail
Last weekend I enjoyed traveling around the district to various harvest festivals and block parties. The weather was perfect, and I saw many familiar faces while meeting new friends.

On Thursday evening, I had the privilege of participating in a candidate forum hosted by the York County Chamber of Commerce. I appreciate all of the candidates who attended, and I thank the Chamber for their hospitality.

Last, but certainly not least, a special thanks to Dorothy Fischer and Mary Ellen Pachuta for hosting an excellent meet and greet last weekend in Ford's Colony!

Request your yard sign and bumper sticker!
Don't forget to sign up today to request a yard sign or bumper sticker! Also, please consider making a financial contribution to continue supporting my efforts. Your donation will help me attain victory in November!

James City County #RigRally On Tuesday

Email_Banner.png
Friends,

In case you missed Pete Snyder's email, the Pig Rig is coming to James City County to host a rally for the grassroots. This election will be deciding the fate of the Senate and if zero-growth Guv Terry has his way they will be bringing back Medicaid expansion and rewriting the election lines.  We need everyone fired up and fueled to go the long haul.  So come out, fill up on some tasty 'que and show your support for all the local Republican candidates.

Click here to RSVP so we have enough 'que to go around.

See you soon,

Friends,

The Business Development Caucus held its first Business Town Hall event of 2015 at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke last week.  Attendees included several of the region's business leaders, economic & workforce development advocates, and representatives of the Virginia Community College System.  Legislators from Northern Virginia, Central Virginia, Southwest and Southside Virginia also attended, as did I of course, representing the VA Chamber's Small Business Committee.  This event was the BDC's 17th since founded in 2012 and carried us over the 500th business participant mark.

These leaders shared some of the issues that the Roanoke region faces in its effort to recruit employers.  Interestingly, topography presents one of their more arduous challenges as this mountainous region limits the availability of suitable development sites.  Obviously, no legislation will remedy this issue directly, but opportunities to improve the readiness and marketability of the few sites that are practical for development do exist.  We also heard issues relating to broadband and other infrastructure needs, economic incentives, and workforce development among others.

Our next Business Town Hall meeting will be held in New Kent County, next Tuesday 9/29 at the New Kent Winery and is being hosted by the New Kent Chamber of Commerce (where my own company is a member).  This event is open to businesses from New Kent, James City, Charles City, Gloucester, King and Queen, King William & Prince George counties and area cities.  While all business/industries are welcome, a portion of the discussion will be reserved for Rural and Agricultural issues.

In addition to members of the General Assembly (six as of today), representatives from the Center for Rural Virginia and Virginia Farm Bureau will also participate.  If you are an area business leader, rural business advocate or farmer please consider joining us.  Click the invitation thumbnail to the right for event and registration information.  There is no charge for this two-hour event and it includes a light lunch - but space is limited.

Following our final 2015 event in Northern Virginia, participating BDC members will hold a retreat to review ideas and evaluate potential pro-job growth legislation for the 2016 session of the General Assembly. Please consider sharing this information with business leaders in your area.

Traveling with the BDC and meeting with leaders across the Commonwealth provides me an informative and effective means for learning and acting to address regional issues regarding Virginia's economy. Subsequently, this translates into more opportunities for citizens here and across the state. For more information on the BDC, visit www.BDCVA.org.  Of course, anyone is free to contact me at MikeWatson.VA@gmail.com for more information.

Respectfully yours,

Mike

To commemorate the signing of the United States Constitution, September 17 is designated by Congress as Constitution Day.

On that momentous date in 1787, delegates to the Constitutional Convention affixed their signatures to the newly written Constitution of the United States of America. Accounts of the signing record that when Benjamin Franklin signed the document, "the old man wept."

Various artists have depicted that emotionally overwhelming moment in America's history. Following is Helen Thomas Robson's rendering of the signing. My hope is that this photo will reconnect you to the miracle of America, our heritage, our founding fathers and the documents upon which our nation was founded:  the Constitution of the United States and the Declaration of Independence.

On the Campaign Trail
With Labor Day behind us, my campaign is well underway. I have been knocking on doors and attending events throughout the district. I also recently had the privilege of presenting a resolution commending the providers within the Historic Triangle Community Services Center for their efforts within our community. For 20 years, the facility has served the residents of our region. In case you hadn't heard, the building has been renamed the Messmer Community Services Center.

Additionally, to commemorate Constitution Day, I spent yesterday working with volunteers to deliver copies of the Constitution to neighborhoods in James City and York Counties. Thank you to all who helped!
RSVP today for next week's event!
